Women's Justice and Empowerment

The FUSION Foundation promotes the advancement of women’s rights, gender equality, and empowerment as an integral part of free, just and democratic societies.

The FUSION Foundation believes gender equality is not only a basic human right, but its achievement has enormous socio-economic ramifications. Empowering women fuels thriving sustainable economies. Yet gender inequalities remain deeply entrenched in every society. Women lack access to healthy, sustainable, life-giving work and face occupational segregation and gender wage gaps. They are too often without access to basic education and health care.

Women in all parts of the world suffer violence and discrimination. They are under-represented in political and economic decision-making processes.

The FUSION Foundation is committed to being a dynamic and strong champion for women and girls, providing opportunities for individuals to discover their powerful voice at the global, regional and local levels.

The FUSION Foundation, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the UN Charter, TeamFUSION, among other issues, works for the:

  • elimination of discrimination against women and girls;

  • empowerment of women; and

  • achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Donor Acknowledgement Letter

It is essential that our supporters feel the love and deep appreciation for their participation in growing great community opportunities.

What Is a Donor Acknowledgment Letter?

Answer: Donors to The FUSION Foundation or to a sic ally sponsored program or project must receive 1) a warm and fuzzy thank you letter and 2) a receipt for their tax-deductible donation.

The IRS requires that a charity send a formal acknowledgment letter for any donation that is more than $250. The FUSION Foundation maintains a belief all of our supporters are essential to sustainable community development and  formal expressions of gratitude are a must! The donor will use this letter as proof of his or her donation and right to a tax deduction. Both types of letter can be accomplished at the same time or separately. But they should be sent immediately after the donation is received.

Here are the minimum requirements of that acknowledgment letter:

  • Your organization's name.
  • The amount of the cash contribution.
  • A description (but not value) of non-cash contribution (sometimes called gift-in-kind). The donor is responsible for estimating the value of non-cash contributions when they are reported to the IRS on a donor's tax return.
  • A statement that no goods or services were provided by the organization, if applicable.
  • A description and good faith estimate of the value of goods or services, if any, that the organization provided in return for the contribution. An example of this is a benefit dinner where some of the money received pays for the actual dinner, while the rest is a donation.
  • A statement that goods or services, if any, that the organization provided in return for the contribution consisted entirely of intangible benefits if applicable. An example might be a small gift typically of a value under $75.
  • A sincere thank you, i.e., On behalf of our community members, and the untold numbers of people linked through our partner organizations FUSION and its sister organizations and projects, I thank you for joining us in our effort to make the sum of all human aspirations accessible for everyone. Your donation makes the world a better place. Thank you.
  • A new call to action, Most people don't know FUSION's run by all volunteers. Please consider sharing our information with a few of your friends to encourage them to find a window open to their dreams.
  • Legal language: The FUSION Foundation, Inc. is an IRS approved non-profit charitable  Arizona corporation with 501(c)(3) tax exempt status in the United States. To All World Religious and Spiritual Leaders

A GREAT URGENCY

To All World Religious and Spiritual Leaders

CHIEF ARVOL LOOKING HORSE

My Relatives,

Time has come to speak to the hearts of our Nations and their Leaders.  I ask you this from the bottom of my heart, to come together from the Spirit of your Nations in prayer.

We, from the heart of Turtle Island, have a great message for the World; we are guided to speak from all the White Animals showing their sacred color, which have been signs for us to pray for the sacred life of all things.  As I am sending this message to you, many Animal Nations are being threatened,
those that swim, those that crawl, those that fly, and the plant Nations. Eventually all will be affected by the oil disaster in the Gulf.

The dangers we are faced with at this time are not of spirit. The catastrophe that has happened with the oil spill which looks like the bleeding of Grandmother Earth, is made by human mistakes, mistakes that we cannot afford to continue to make.

I asked, as Spiritual Leaders, that we join together, united in prayer with the whole of our Global Communities. My concern is these serious issues will continue to worsen, as a domino effect that our Ancestors have warned us of in their Prophecies.

I know in my heart there are millions of people that feel our united prayers for the sake of our Grandmother Earth are long overdue.  I believe we as Spiritual people must gather ourselves and focus our thoughts and prayers to allow the healing of the many wounds that have been inflicted on the Earth. As we honor the Cycle of Life, let us call for Prayer circles globally to assist in healing Grandmother Earth (our Unc’I Maka).

We ask for prayers that the oil spill, this bleeding, will stop. That the winds stay calm to assist in the work. Pray for the people to be guided in repairing this mistake, and that we may also seek to live in harmony, as we make the choice to change the destructive path we are on.

As we pray, we will fully understand that we are all connected.  And that what we create can have lasting effects on all life.

So let us unite spiritually, All Nations, All Faiths, One Prayer.  Along with this immediate effort, I also ask to please remember June 21st, World Peace and Prayer Day/Honoring Sacred Sites day. Whether it is a natural site, a temple, a church, a synagogue or just your own sacred space, let us make a prayer for all life, for good decision making by our Nations, for our children¹s future and well-being, and the generations to come.

Onipikte (that we shall live),

Chief Arvol Looking Horse, 19th generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe
(Wolakota.org)

Arvol Looking Horse was born on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota in 1954. Raised by his grandparents, Lucy and Thomas Looking Horse, Arvol learned the culture and spiritual ways of the Lakota. He speaks both Lakota and English. At 12 he was given the enormous responsibility of becoming the 19th generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe, the youngest in history. Arvol has felt, on many occasions, overwhelmed by inheriting such a responsibility of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota Nations at such a young age. He was raised in an era and bore witness to the suppression of his peoples’ spiritual practices. He decided to “work for change and let the world know how beautiful our way of life is, so the seventh generation can have a better future.”

The Earth Charter (complete text)

PREAMBLE

We stand at a critical moment in Earth's history, a time when humanity must choose its future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future at once holds great peril and great promise. To move forward we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny. We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace. Towards this end, it is imperative that we, the peoples of Earth, declare our responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations.

Earth, Our Home

Humanity is part of a vast evolving universe. Earth, our home, is alive with a unique community of life. The forces of nature make existence a demanding and uncertain adventure, but Earth has provided the conditions essential to life's evolution. The resilience of the community of life and the well-being of humanity depend upon preserving a healthy biosphere with all its ecological systems, a rich variety of plants and animals, fertile soils, pure waters, and clean air. The global environment with its finite resources is a common concern of all peoples. The protection of Earth's vitality, diversity, and beauty is a sacred trust.

The Global Situation

The dominant patterns of production and consumption are causing environmental devastation, the depletion of resources, and a massive extinction of species. Communities are being undermined. The benefits of development are not shared equitably and the gap between rich and poor is widening. Injustice, poverty, ignorance, and violent conflict are widespread and the cause of great suffering. An unprecedented rise in human population has overburdened ecological and social systems. The foundations of global security are threatened. These trends are perilous—but not inevitable.

The Challenges Ahead

The choice is ours: form a global partnership to care for Earth and one another or risk the destruction of ourselves and the diversity of life. Fundamental changes are needed in our values, institutions, and ways of living. We must realize that when basic needs have been met, human development is primarily about being more, not having more. We have the knowledge and technology to provide for all and to reduce our impacts on the environment. The emergence of a global civil society is creating new opportunities to build a democratic and humane world. Our environmental, economic, political, social, and spiritual challenges are interconnected, and together we can forge inclusive solutions.

Universal Responsibility

To realize these aspirations, we must decide to live with a sense of universal responsibility, identifying ourselves with the whole Earth community as well as our local communities. We are at once citizens of different nations and of one world in which the local and global are linked. Everyone shares responsibility for the present and future well-being of the human family and the larger living world. The spirit of human solidarity and kinship with all life is strengthened when we live with reverence for the mystery of being, gratitude for the gift of life, and humility regarding the human place in nature.

We urgently need a shared vision of basic values to provide an ethical foundation for the emerging world community. Therefore, together in hope we affirm the following interdependent principles for a sustainable way of life as a common standard by which the conduct of all individuals, organizations, businesses, governments, and transnational institutions is to be guided and assessed.

The Earth Charter

The approximately 2,400 word document is divided into sections (called pillars), which have sixteen main principles containing sixty-one supporting principles. The document opens with a preamble and ends with a conclusion entitled “The Way Forward”.

Principles

The four pillars and sixteen principles of the Earth Charter are:

I. Respect and Care for the Community of Life

1. Respect Earth and life in all its diversity.

2. Care for the community of life with understanding, compassion and love.

3. Build democratic societies that are just, participatory, sustainable and peaceful.

4. Secure Earth's bounty and beauty for present and future generations.

II. Ecological Integrity

5. Protect and restore the integrity of Earth's ecological systems, with special concern for biological diversity and the natural processes that sustain life.

6. Prevent harm as the best method of environmental protection and, when knowledge is limited, apply a precautionary approach.

7. Adopt patterns of production, consumption and reproduction that safeguard Earth's regenerative capacities, human rights and community well-being.

8. Advance the study of ecological sustainability and promote the open exchange and wide application of the knowledge acquired.

III. Social and Economic Justice

9. Eradicate poverty as an ethical, social and environmental imperative.

10. Ensure that economic activities and institutions at all levels promote human development in an equitable and sustainable manner.

11. Affirm gender equality and equity as prerequisites to sustainable development and ensure universal access to education, health care and economic opportunity.

12. Uphold the right of all, without discrimination, to a natural and social environment supportive of human dignity, bodily health and spiritual well-being, with special attention to the rights of indigenous peoples and minorities.

IV. Democracy, Nonviolence, and Peace

13. Strengthen democratic institutions at all levels, and provide transparency and accountability in governance, inclusive participation in decision-making, and access to justice.

14. Integrate into formal education and lifelong learning the knowledge, values and skills needed for a sustainable way of life.

15. Treat all living beings with respect and consideration.

16. Promote a culture of tolerance, nonviolence and peace.

Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

On September 13, 2007 the UN General Assembly adopted the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This followed more than twenty years of discussion within the UN system. Indigenous representatives played a key role in the development of this Declaration.

There are over 370 million indigenous people in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Pacific. They are among the most impoverished, marginalized and frequently victimized people in the world.

This universal human rights instrument is celebrated globally as a symbol of triumph and hope. Effective implementation of the Declaration would result in significant improvements in the global situation of indigenous peoples.

FUSION EarthCulture Organizational Systems

Systems collapsing upon themselves is part of the convergence into the evolution new systems and the transition to a higher order. The reliance on current systems has disrupted our connectedness to earth. FUSION seeks to learn, implement, model whole system community organizational design that understands the intradependency of human beings, earths natural ecological organizing and the intuitive call to tribal gathering.

We are all related, all connected, and earth culture systems work within and from that basic elementary understanding. Supporting the development, sustainability and building the capacity of relationships between identifying needs and resources is the most basic and essential element of a system design that is a catalyst for evolution and creating humanistic change.

Women, War and Peace

Pray the Devil Back to Hell

Women, War & Peace premiered on your local PBS station Tuesday nights from Oct. 11 to Nov. 8, 2011.

Women, War & Peace is a bold new five-part PBS television series challenging the conventional wisdom that war and peace are men’s domain. The vast majority of today’s conflicts are not fought by nation states and their armies, but rather by informal entities: gangs and warlords using small arms and improvised weapons. The series reveals how the post-Cold War proliferation of small arms has changed the landscape of war, with women becoming primary targets and suffering unprecedented casualties. Yet they are simultaneously emerging as necessary partners in brokering lasting peace and as leaders in forging new international laws governing conflict. With depth and complexity, Women, War & Peace spotlights the stories of women in conflict zones from Bosnia to Afghanistan and Colombia to Liberia, placing women at the center of an urgent dialogue about conflict and security, and reframing our understanding of modern warfare.

On of the 5 in the series is the powerful story of Pray the Devil Back to Hell is the astonishing story of the Liberian women who took on the warlords and regime of dictator Charles Taylor in the midst of a brutal civil war, and won a once unimaginable peace for their shattered country in 2003. As the rebel noose tightened around the capital city of Monrovia, thousands of women – ordinary mothers, grandmothers, aunts and daughters, both Christian and Muslim – formed a thin but unshakeable line between the opposing forces. Armed only with white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions, they literally faced down the killers who had turned Liberia into hell on earth. In one memorable scene, the women barricaded the site of stalled peace talks in Ghana and refused to move until a deal was done. Their demonstrations culminated in Taylor’s exile and the rise of Africa’s first female head of state, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Inspiring and uplifting, Pray the Devil Back to Hell is a compelling example of how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations.
