Jean M. Tennyson

Jean Tennyson is President and CEO of Navigating Our Future (NOF). NOF is a trans-partisan social sector organization that provides the processes and framework to enable Americans working within their communities and nationwide to effectively resolve the complex social issues that affect their lives. To achieve this goal NOF brings diverse individuals together in an innovative process of education, dialogue, deliberation, and consensus building. This democratic process lays the foundation for effective collaboration and produces solution strategies leading to action supported by the majority.

Jean professional experience spans the private, public, and social sectors. She began her career in information technology where she worked for nearly two decades. She was a principal with Computer Sciences Corporation’s business division, specializing in business solution analysis, process redesign and reengineering, and knowledge management. Jean led teams and held key positions on high-profile projects at numerous Fortune 500 businesses and major government agencies including Pepsico, Fleet Bank, Unum Insurance, and State of New York. She was awarded CSC’s Consulting Excellence Award for her client work.

While at CSC Jean also played a key role within the organization, drawing attention to and mobilizing management to address crucial employee concerns during a time of rapid change and growth within the organization. In recognition of her efforts Jean was nominated by her business unit for the CSC Values Award, presented annually to the CSC employee that best exemplifies the company’s values of partnership, respect for the individual, excellence, and innovation.

In 2000 Ms. Tennyson transitioned to the social sector, accepting a position as Deputy Director for Strategy and Operations at Oxfam America, the US branch of one of the largest international development organizations worldwide. Jean championed and led the creation of OA’s leadership and management skills development program. She also served on Oxfam International’s web strategy team and was instrumental in developing an organization-wide study on private sector collaboration.

Throughout her career Jean has had the opportunity to study the unique challenges facing leaders, organizations, and groups that are attempting to deal with complex and often highly contentious issues. Her deepening interest in this area has progressively led her to seek positions with organizations dedicated to understanding the unique nature of the challenges facing today’s leaders and organizations and providing ways to help them effectively handle these challenges. She has been CEO or Managing Director for a number of start-up businesses and social sector organizations that offer services in the areas of leadership and group development and large group collaboration and problem solving.

Jean lives in the Boston area. She enjoys reading, music, theatre, and walking.
