Drum & Rhythm Basics Class with Daniel Hirtz

Daniel Hirtz Drum Rhythm Classes

Daniel Hirtz is a well-known percussionist in the valley of the sun. He has studied and performed for over 30 years and is well versed in several hand drums. He plays Indian Tabla, African Djembe, Conga, Bongos and many percussion instruments from many different cultures. He has performed with many bands in Europe and the US.

Join Daniel on three Saturday afternoons and learn percussion basics. This class will teach you all you need to know to be able to play along in a drum circle, have confidence in what you are doing, use the drum circle to get better and enjoy drumming a whole lot more. This is not a class that teaches any specific tradition. It is simply based on numbers and you will be able to apply what you learn here to any drum you’re playing.

Once you’ve completed this class, you’ll also know if you want to go deeper into drumming. It lays the foundation for the advanced course that teaches you more complex rhythms, better sound/technique and start to develop the ability to play solo.

In three classes, we will build a foundation based on rhythmical exercises, sounds, hand/stick techniques and lots of practice. By spreading the class over three weeks, we’ll be able to repeat and deepen what we’ve learned the week before.
The class is for a maximum of six people so that each person has some individual instruction time with Daniel.

WHEN: 3 Saturday afternnoons 2 - 4 p.m. July 28th - August 11th
              3 Wednesday evenings 7 - 9 p.m. August 1st - August 15th (pushed back 1 week)
Full attendance recommended,  if you miss one you can make it up later.  Will be offered ongoing basis.

WHERE: Tatum & Cactus area - address available upon registration - private residence

COST: $60 - $75 for all 3 classes (sliding scale, don’t let money stand in the way, call Daniel)
