Bringing the Sacred Back To Women - Historical Horse Ride - Train the Trainer Program

The Red Shawl Grandmothers will provide a “Train the Trainer Program” for women from the underserved community of indigenous women in collaboration with Horses Help (HH), a 27-year well-established not-for-profit equine therapy program providing activities to empower participants to break through physical and emotional barriers. The program will provide women with leadership development tools to “ride” to a level of power and return to their community ready to lead others. The women benefitting from this program themselves are survivors of PTSD, historical trauma and colonization, and are working with underserved women and children experiencing the same. The training will provide them with a powerful, culturally relevant, identified best practice certification. This empowerment program is one aspect of “Women'sFUSION” building to a extended long-range women's horse ride Bringing the Sacred Back to Women - restoring and celebrating the historical strong and wise leadership of women in our local and global communities.

The Red Shawl Grandmothers is a collaboration with Womens FUSION of The FUSION Foundation a 501c3 community organization. WomensFUSION is committed to inspiring, empowering and educating women, children, and men through sharing traditional teachings and sacred ceremonies in order to support the health and well-being of Earth and all who live here. WomensFUSION uses a model of community building developed from traditional American Indian teachings and ancient indigenous wisdom which cultivates a deep connection to Earth, empowers women to reclaim their role as wise leaders and creates a framework for future generations to realize the importance of living in harmony with our natural world.

Women, War and Peace

Pray the Devil Back to Hell

Women, War & Peace premiered on your local PBS station Tuesday nights from Oct. 11 to Nov. 8, 2011.

Women, War & Peace is a bold new five-part PBS television series challenging the conventional wisdom that war and peace are men’s domain. The vast majority of today’s conflicts are not fought by nation states and their armies, but rather by informal entities: gangs and warlords using small arms and improvised weapons. The series reveals how the post-Cold War proliferation of small arms has changed the landscape of war, with women becoming primary targets and suffering unprecedented casualties. Yet they are simultaneously emerging as necessary partners in brokering lasting peace and as leaders in forging new international laws governing conflict. With depth and complexity, Women, War & Peace spotlights the stories of women in conflict zones from Bosnia to Afghanistan and Colombia to Liberia, placing women at the center of an urgent dialogue about conflict and security, and reframing our understanding of modern warfare.

On of the 5 in the series is the powerful story of Pray the Devil Back to Hell is the astonishing story of the Liberian women who took on the warlords and regime of dictator Charles Taylor in the midst of a brutal civil war, and won a once unimaginable peace for their shattered country in 2003. As the rebel noose tightened around the capital city of Monrovia, thousands of women – ordinary mothers, grandmothers, aunts and daughters, both Christian and Muslim – formed a thin but unshakeable line between the opposing forces. Armed only with white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions, they literally faced down the killers who had turned Liberia into hell on earth. In one memorable scene, the women barricaded the site of stalled peace talks in Ghana and refused to move until a deal was done. Their demonstrations culminated in Taylor’s exile and the rise of Africa’s first female head of state, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Inspiring and uplifting, Pray the Devil Back to Hell is a compelling example of how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations.
